St. Catharines Liberal MP Chris Bittle is officially the party’s candidate in the upcoming federal election.

Bittle was confirmed Wednesday night during a federal Liberals nomination meeting for the St. Catharines riding at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24.

First elected in 2015, Bittle has sat on the Justice Committee from 2015-2017 and on the standing committee on procedure and house affairs since being appointed Deputy House Leader. He is a civil litigator and past chair of Quest Community Health Centre.

“Every day it is an honour and privilege to serve the people of St Catharines. I am again humbled to be the Liberal Candidate for 2019,” he Tweeted.

A campaign press release said Bittle is committed to working with Justin Trudeau to strengthen the middle class, create well-paying jobs and offer help for families in St. Catharines.

The federal election is scheduled to be held on or before Oct. 21.

All three of the major parties have named their candidates in St. Catharines riding.

Bittle will be running against Conservative candidate Krystina Waler, who was acclaimed in August, and NDP candidate Dennis Van Meer, who was confirmed last month.
